I needed help install a Maxtor 40G Hard on an upgraded WinMe..I can't find anything here on this FORUM related to Hard Drive, so I hope someone can HELP or direct me to a webpage that may help me. I wanted to add this Maxtor 40G ultra UMA 66 HD to my existing 6G HD.

Configuration on this PC:

HP Pavilion
333Mhz Intel Celeron
128 RAM
Phoenix Bios Setup
PRIMARY IDE MASTER is HD 1 (6G)
PRIMARY IDE SLAVE is 3 1/2 Floppy Disk
SECONDARY IDE MASTER is CD-ROM drive
SECONDARY IDE SLAVE is this new (MAXTOR 40G HD)..am I using the right IDE for this New HD?

When I turned the PC on..and go to the setup page BIOs page (F1)..the new HD is Vibrating and I can't detect this new HD. How do I set it up..to where I can see it?

Maxtor Helpline is not userful..

Please HELP..ASAP!!

Slave it to your other HD
Why is your floppy on there?

Get a promise IDE card at Buy.com
And you'll have No more slave drives

If have a hard drive as master and a cdrom as slave on the same cable, then set jumpers on the hard drive to master and use the secondary ide port and cable. Then detect it in the bios.
If your cdrom is master on the secondary cable then set your jumper on the hard drive to slave and connect it to the primary cable along with your primary hard drive.

I have solved this DAMN problem !!

Change the Jumper into Slave if this gonna be your 2nd HD. I don't Recommends you to use Maxtor Setup Disk to format and Partition..it will make it worse! Just use your windows startup disks and once you are there Type in FDISK and it lets you create or delete any prior partition.
