Motherboards and magnetic screwdrivers don't get along. For that matter anything related to a PC doesn't like a maganetic screwdriver.

I don't know of anything on a motherboard that would be affected by a magnetic screwdriver, so I don't see what the problem would be. You don't want to get them around your disks though.

When I started building my computer I used a big magnet and magnetized my phillips head screwdriver so I could get the mobo mounting screws down into the case. Used it for everything else too. Even used it to put the mounting screws in the floppy and hard drives. You can't hurt the mobo, but like Joe says, keep it away from floppies or any other removable magnetic media.

Unless the screw driver has a realy strong magetic feild, like could be used to pick up scrap steel :) lol,I realy doubt it could do any damadge to your pc.My favorite driver has a slight magnetic feild.Be carefull and dont get it close to your moniter and there is a slight chance it could affect the data on a hard drive but there is a very strong magnet in every hard disk so I dont think a driver could do anything.

Is it worth the risk to Possiblly screw up your mobo just for the use of a magnetic screwdriver....Iwould say no ,But you could get a screw starter and holder to help you out ...i do it makes it easier

Avoid the magnet pickup or screw magnetized. You should get the "Reach picker" and non-magnet drivers, that computer tool case included the reach picker and non-manget drivers. if you fumbled the screws underneath of mobos, carefully shake the case very gentlely till you see the screw slides to edge of "floor" corner.

A small piece of Blue-Tak on the end of a driver does the trick.
