Ok I'm having some trouble with spyware ills. I have ad-ware SE, Spybot 1.3, Winpatrol, Avast 4.1 home.

My homepage keeps trying to get replaced, which winpatrol blocks. Ad-aware runs and finds and deletes things, but it will find stuff on back to back runs. Less each time. Spybot gets to CoolWWW stuff (counted to 6228 I belive) and throws a blue screen. Same with Avast 4.1. Spybot 1.3 crashes in safe mode as well.

Suggestions on fixing this would be much appreciated.

I would empty the the temporary internet files and off line content. I would then turn system restore off and restart the computer, during the restart I would enter the safe mode and run all my antimalware scans while in it. After all the scans are completed, I would the restart the computer and run my scans again just to make sure it is clean. If it is, I would turn system restore back on if I liked using it. If this does not solve the problem I would go to

Spybot crashes in safe mode on my system, that is part of the problem. I empty the temp internet files and delelte all off-line content everytime I close the browser.

Get yourself a new download of Spybot S&D 1.3 and uninstall your current version. Try re-installing the new one from safe mode making sure you have turned Avast off.

Boot back into Windows and fully update Spybot. Switch Avast back on.

Download CWShredder 1.59.1 and run that first.

Then try running the fully updated Spybot S&D again.

Fully update Ad-Aware SE 1.05. Download the VX2 Cleaner Add-On for it

Lavasoft support forums -- Add Ons -- VX2 Cleaner.

Then run both the Ad-Aware scan and the VX2 Cleaner add-on.

Does Winpatrol still try to block the homepage hijacking now ? If so, there's a couple more things you can run.

I haven't tried installing a new 1.3 spybot in safemode. I did do it in regular mode and it didn't seem to make a difference. Still locks up. I will try from safe mode tonite. I will also try the VX2 add-on. Winpatrol is still blocking the homepage change. I leave the computer on all the time, and when I wake up in the morning, I have 50+ windows open asking me if I want to approve the homepage change from winpatrol.

Try the running order in # 3 first.

If you get exactly the same results post a HJT log.

Looks like the Lavasoft forums have been hijacked or they ain't paid the bill.

Use the Lavasoftusa link instead for VX2 add on.

I think I got rid of it with Hijack this!

This site really helped:

I had to disable my avast active virus scan to help spybot 1.3 along.

Situation much improved :)

If you want to post a revised log to make sure the site picked everything up, then do so. It does pick most things up, but can leave some stuff behind.

But it's a great interim measure, and like I said, picks most things up.

pimpinaman - just make sure you've extracted HJT to your program files, not a default temp folder or the desktop.
