help please!! i know this mobo neds binning but i will not be beaten on this one. i have reinstalled windows me on a pc chips m571 v7 mobo, flashed the bios with newest possible version but whilst booting up it freezes, i have booted up in safe mode but my cd drive will not detect.
i suspect the problem to be the ide controller, in device manager i have 3 entries for this primary & secondary controller with ! next to both
and a sis dual ide controlller entry.
when i remove the sis dual controller it all boots up well and good but then windows automatically locates the dual controller and reinstalls software for it. i am sure the system will work with just the standard primary & secondary controllers but how do i stop the sis dual ide controller from installing on boot up
i have scoured the net about this problem and the problem seems to be quite well documented but up to yet i have been unable to locate a fix for this
help much appreciated

when the system loads the ide controller again, open the properties of the controller and disable it.

I have a system board with that SIS chip set in it and it works just fine, after I installed the system board chip set drivers from SIS that supports it. I had the SIS drivers on a CD and as you can not read CD's when booted into Safe Mode, I had to use a Windows ME startup boot diskette to copy the SIS board driver install program to the disk drive. Then boot into Safe Mode to access the disk drive in DOS compatibility mode to run the SIS chip set driver install program(s).

Many SIS chipsets use 5513 cntrlr.
WinME doesn't need any special drivers for it. You may've "acquired" the NO IDE entry in REGISTRY, i did once.

If your computer contains a PCI IDE hard disk controller that employs serialization between the two IDE channels, this tip may help you resolve a MS-DOS compatibility mode problem in Device Manager.
To cause Windows to attempt to reinitialize the protected-mode IDE driver, remove the 'NoIDE' entry from the registry key below.

Settings:
Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\IOS]
Name: NoIDE

After you update the registry, restart Windows. Windows will then attempt to initialize the protected-mode driver for the controller.
If no problems are encountered, the file system and virtual memory will operate in 32-bit mode, and Device Manager will not display an exclamation point in a yellow circle for the IDE channels.

Got this info off GOOGLE, there's 8 pages on this socket7 board, no longer in PCChips's archives.
Maybe Udo need to install IDE drivers?
Why worry bout CDrom till HDD/IDE is worked out?

The difference between the v3.2, v3.2A and v7.0A boards?

Version 3.2
- Minimum CPU core voltage - 2.5v
- Maximum CPU internal clock speed multiplier - 3.5x*
- Maximum CPU external clock speed - 75 MHz**

* 3.5x is the highest documented setting, however settings up to 5.5x may be obtained by using 3.2a/7.0 settings.

** The v3.2, although it is not documented, individual boards may achieve 83.3 MHz FSB by using 7.0 settings

Version 3.2A
- Minimum CPU core voltage - 2.2v
- Maximum CPU internal clock speed mutilplier - 5.5x
- Maximum CPU external clock speed - 75 MHz***

*** The v3.2A, although it is not documented, also supports an 83 MHz FSB

Version 7.0A
- Minumum CPU core voltage - 2.2v
- Maximum CPU internal clock speed mutiplier - 5.5x
- Maximum CPU external clock speed - 83 MHz
-** Uses different super I/O chip to the v.3.2 and 3.2A (Making bios updates from previous versions incompatible)
