Are there any utlities that can tell you how much User and GDI Resources are being used by any one program or process in ME?
Can you tell which one -- User or GDI -- is actually low? The Resource Meter tells what the lower value of the two is, without telling which one has the lower value or what the value of the higher one is.I'm trying to troubleshoot unacceptable Quicken problems that I can only surmise are related to system resource usage -- if I minimize the Quicken program window after my computer has been without a reboot for half a day or so I can't Restore the window -- right click the minimized button on the task bar and get no error message, just no restored Window. I have to right click and select close to close the program, and then reboot. I've had the same problems with Quicken 1999 as with Quicken 2002.
This can happen with no other windows open, although I'll be running lots of (useful, but not always necessary) background processes -- ZoneAlarm, Norton AntiVirus, scanner lamp warmup, phone line networking software, multimedia keyboard software, printer monitor, and more. I'd love a way to figure out which process is hogging the most resources, to see if maybe I could live without it. Trial and error doesn't work too well, since the problem can only be re-created hours after a reboot.
