I have a 400 Mhz, 6 GIG, 64 MBRAM, HP computer and have upgraded from WIN 98 SE to WIN ME and I consistently have low system resources. When I start the computer the system resources are 83 % and after running a couple of programs it drops drastically and never recovers. Also, I notice WINMGMT.exe running in the background, What is this?
Do you have any suggestions on how to improve system resources or why it decreases and doesn't rebound? Thanks
GUY

Clear your startup environment. Start->run->MSCONFIG->startup tab. uncheck the unecessary applications that are running in the background, leave system tray and scanregistry. look at the path to the right to get a feel of where the application is and what it does. Another thing you can try, is rightclick on mycomputer->properties->performance->typical role of this computer-> change desktop computer to network server.

Winmgmt seems to be an application in ME that is more suited to win 2000. It has to do with serving clients. I had troubles with it when I first installed ME. I made copies of the files and then deleted them. You can find them by doing a search for files named winmgmt. Haven't had any problems since. I'm thinking about trying the same with netdde.exe, which I find running in the background when I have a problem. It's supposed to allow computers with different OSs to communicate over a network.

Guy, read this.

I know it deals with win 2000 but why is it part of ME? I saw dozens of posts while trying to figure it out saying that winmgmt was crashing their machines. Hope this helps.
Mike
