Hi,

I have emachine (800) with Windows ME, and it is giving me problems. While I'm running only one application it says low system resources, try closing some applications. So I thought maybe doubling the memory will do it. I double the memory to 128meg. But that didn't solve the problem. A friend told to switch to win98, cuz he said ME leaks memory. What should i do?

thnx,
yidnek

windows me is the third version of 98. this happens in most windows operating systems. when you close an application it is supposed to give the memory back, but as your finding out it doesnt always. first i would go to start>run>typeMSCONFIG got to start up and un check programs that dont need to run at startup. thats just about everything. keep system tray though.then go to analogx.com and download max mem its free and its a pretty good mem manager. if youre doing any video editing 128 is the bare min. for memory . im running 1 gb of ram. this should help good luck

Memory is only a small fraction of what comprises your system resources. Try this:

click on the start button, then click "Run". In the box type MSCONFIG. Go to your start up tab and uncheck everything except for systray, explorer, scanregistry, load powerprofile, and Statemgr.
Then reboot.

If you want you can start up one of the unchecked programs one at a time to see which one is sucking up alot of resources.

BTW, It is my belief that 128 meg is the bare minimum for Win ME. I loaded up with 256 and my machine is running much better.

Hope this helps,

Also if you have System Restore enabled, this will use alot of resources.
