I have long lost the licensed Win98 disk, and I am reinstalling a lincensed ME on a reformatted HDD. I obviously cannot get past the compliance check. Any ideas? Are there files I can copy from one of my other computers onto a floppy that will satisfy this check? Many thanks.

What do you mean "The compliance check".
Do you mean the OEM number, the Key code?
98 has nothing to do with ME so the "I obviously cannot get past the compliance check." means zilch
Wolfey sniffs the night air in anticipation.

Are you trying to install a WindowsME "Upgrade" disc.
I believe this is the only time windows asks for a compliance check to another prior retail version of windows. Normally you have to insert a retail version of windows, whether it be W95 or W98, it is trying to upgrade from. Then follow the instructions.
I dont know anyway around this problem if this is what you are after.

Its possible to move files around in an attempt to trick the qualification process.. google.com is a good place to start as im sure no one here has the week or so of time to invest in walking you thru it :).
The obvious/easiest way.... Borrow a full copy of win98 or winme.. if you end up buying you might check out XP.. XP wont do very well with the system you spec'd in this post IMO.

Sometimes it takes longer than a week, to walk threw things with people. But, it's good to be valiant.
Right SMUOD :-)I'll Try

Had same problem a while ago, bought a new HD and wanted to put ME on it but only had the upgrade disk. It can be done but you will need the Win 98 OEM disk. I ended up begging and "borrowing" a friends disk to get the ME loaded. Then it worked fine.
