Lost Search and Quick Launch

OS: WinME
CPU/Ram: 1.8GHz/224MB
Model/Manufacturer: Dell
Comment:
Hi everybody
I´m still trying to optimize my "no-name" 1.8GHz, 224MB (that what it says!) computer running on WinME with which OS I have now got about two weeks experience.
The HD is a teeny 20GB of which 6GB are currently free.
However, the computer does run reasonably well with apps coming up very fast through the Windows Key (BTW, this is a great tool!). Thanks to suggestions from this group I have got the boot time down to 82 seconds.
Nevertheless, the computer does "hang" now and again which sounds like a RAM problem to me even though I have learnt from this forum that the 224MB I have should be adequate for WinME.
I have just created two user accounts on the machine and have found that I can no longer use the Windows Explorer Search function (in either user account).
Can anybody explain this to me and advise me on how to retrieve the Search function?
Another anomaly is that I cannot create a Quick Launch bar on the task bar in the second User Account desktop (but it is available in the other account). When I right-click on the taskbar and then click ToolBar>Quick Launch I get an error message saying that it it not possible to create this toolbar.
Any comments or suggestions?
TIA
Paul

Paul0887, SWAG, sounds to me like you might have inadvertantly set up some restrictions on the user account that must be modified prior to allowing actions. Take a look at account permissions?

Thanks for your reply.
Your suggestion certainly sounds reasonable, however, WinME is new to me.
In addition, because of where I am right now, my version of Windows only speaks Portuguese (and an awful lot better than I do).
Therefore, any pointers you could provide me to enable me to examine the account permissions would be gratefully received.
TIA
Paul

For anybody that´s interested, I managed to solve this problem. It turns out not to have been a permissions issue but one related to file/folder corruption.
I had posted a similar question on another newsgroup where one of the replies made the corrupted file suggestion and recommended creating a new user account and deleting the old one.
This worked a treat and resulted in the welcome reappearance of the Quick Launch toolbar.
I should mention, however, that the first (malfunctioning) attempt at creating a second user account resulted in a surprising 700 MB increase in the size of the Windows folder. However, the "new" second user account made only a minimal addition to the Windows folder size.
Another relevant difference between the functioning and malfunctioning "second user accounts" is that the one that worked (and provided the QL toolbar) contained the following folder:
C:\windows\profile\user name\dados de aplicativos\microsoft\internet explorer\quick launch

In the one that didn´t show the QL toolbar, the above tree contained the folder "Application Data" (instead of the Portuguese version "Dados de Aplicativos").

Go figure
Paul
