Download TweakUI from internet.Once you've done this go to TweakUI in control panel, this is where it will be when you've downloaded it.
In TweakUI, click on tab with My Computer on it and check that the drive missing is ticked.Come out of tweak UI and into My Computer.Has the drive returned?
Tweak UI is a Power tool program and is really an addition to tool windows programs that Microsoft left out.

In Device Manager, you should have a "Disk drives" entry. Expand it and select the GENERIC IDE IDE DISK line and click Properties. Under Settings tab, make sure the Removable option is not checked.

Try going into the system board BIOS CMOS Setup and check the status of the disk drive in the Setup. Then go to the PnP/PCI Configuration section of the Setup and for the Reset Configuration Data change the Disable to Enable and save the setup and reboot.

If the system board configuration is corrupted, it might be telling Windows Plug and Play that the IDE disk drives are removable drives.
