Who can help? Right from delivery I've had boot up problems with my 1.2 Athlon MESH Computer with Windows ME: sometimes the screen wouldn't come on, sometimes the mouse was completely unresponsive and so on and so forth. MESH's advice was to download new drivers from viatech. I did that and the whole system crashed during installation. Initially Windows Me wouldn't boot up at all, but I managed some rudimentary repair with a system restore. Ever since, CD ROM drive and CD RW are not being recognised by windows. The device manager declares that they are present but "there is a problem". MESH have now recommended amendments in the BIOS but they haven't helped. MESH are not quite clear about re-installing Windows ME. Should I or is there a less drastic solution to my problem?

Try this although make sure you have the drivers for the CD ROM and CDRW first - the OS should have default drivers anyway. Assuming you can boot into ME, right-click my computer, go to properties, and device manager. Are there any exclamation marks next to the CDrom/CDRW drives? If so, then try right-clicking them and removing them, one after the other. Ideally, they should be auto detected when you are asked to reboot. Also, before you clean re-install, try overwriting the current installation, as this is completely harmless and will restore the original drivers. You will NOT lose your data.
Have you tried resetting the bios settings to default and booting up?
Hope this helps.
