HELP! Lost various icons on my desktop yesterday. They seem to have been replaced by a default type icon (plain white, with blue border at the top). I tried properties, change icon (the original is still there), apply, but nothing happens. Also, tried system restore, however, there were no active restoral dates to choose from, which was also odd. Is there anything I can do to restore the original icons, short of re-installing these programs? Example of changed icons: Yahoo Messenger, Musicmatch Jukebox, and Acrobat Reader 5.0. Thanks for any help!

Go to your display properties, change the color settings, then change them back.
Or,boot to safe mode, then reboot back to normal mode.
Or,search for your shelliconcache file (it is a hidden file, you must unhide via Control panel/Folder Options/View tab),once you find it,delete it,and reboot.Windows will recreate it.
