i am running windows me, 300 processor 128 ram and just installed a second hard drive it wqent fine but my cd-rom that was in D didn't change to E (in my computer). in device mgr. it reads E and in my bios at startup it reads E both ide channels are enabled in hard disc controller and i know that the jumpers are set corectly I have the hard drives on primary and slave on the first cable and secondary master on the other. the system is not running in the dos compatability mode as far as i can see but when i access it in dos it reads fine and normally it has power but does not spin the disc or show up in my computer anyone have any ideas

just for the heck of it, can you go to 'my computer', right click choose properties,choose device manager, and delete the cd-rom,. Then restart and your puter should pick-up the New Hardware and do it's own plug&play and assign it a drive letter.
