Over the past couple of days my hard drive space has dramatically disappeared leaving me with below half of the free space I had previously.
I've checked the size of the desktop, emptied the temp folder, searched for duplicate folders that could be deleted, scandisked, defragged, emptied the browser cache and reduced the amount of space it uses and triple checked for worms, trojans and viruses.
I've run out of ideas now. Anyone got any thoughts? I'd appreciate any input anyone might have, believe me. The only other thought I had is that my current hard drive is over three years old, could it be that I need to renew it? Problem is I have files on my computer which are necessary and too large to put on 3.5" floppies. I don't have a CD rewriter so that's not an option. I wondered about getting an external disk drive, but admit I don't know all that much about them and how efficient they are.
Any ideas?

First try running System Tools - Disk CleanUP utility.
Then try Disable System Restore, reboot, run DEFRAG and then go a back and Enable System Restore.
See Windows ME Fixes for a few more common things to check and do.
