Good Morning,
I just reinstalled 98se and all my apps. ME is a waste, I am having trouble understanding M$. Why in the world would they create an OS that is totally worthless? Has the feel of a beta version. Check this letter out:

Hello,

There is currently no fix for the incompatibility between Go!Zilla and IE, so the only current solution is to remove Go!Zilla and the Radiate advertising technology.

We provide advertising technology to software companies. The advertising allows them to give their software away to consumers for free, but still generate revenue. Our advertising technology is used by programs like Go!Zilla, CuteFTP, GetRight, Buddyphone, and over 300 others (more than they really want to admit). A fairly complete list can be found at:

http://www.radiate.com/developers/products.html

Your machine connects to our servers to update the ad data that is used in these software applications. We make these connections when you are online, but not necessarily when the software products are running, in order to display advertising to these products at a later time, when you are not connected to the Internet. We ask our software partners to include an explanation of this in their product's license agreement, which is displayed during the installation process. If you know it was not included, please let us know which product you installed, and we will make sure the license agreement is updated to explain that this will happen. The advertisements are stored on the PC and are then displayed when you run the software application you have installed that uses our advertising technology. Our DLL is loaded when the browser is launched. When the DLL is loaded, we deliver advertisements to your computer. Please be aware that we do NOT send personally identifiable data unless knowingly and willingly volunteered to us by you. We also do not search your registry or monitor your web browsing.

To continue to use the program you have installed that uses our advertising technology, this connection to our servers needs to take place. However, if you are no longer using the software, you can download a file from our site that will remove our technology from your system. Please go to:

http://www.radiate.com/privacy/remover.html

If you wish to manually remove our technology from your system, you can do the following. First, delete all instances of "amcis.dll", "msipcsv.exe", "amcis2.dll", and "advert.dll," this will cause any connections between your system and our servers to stop. Please make sure your browser, and any software that utilizes our advertising technology, is not running when you delete these files.

You can delete the following registry keys:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Software\Aureate\
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Aureate\

You may also delete the following directories:
amc
amcdl

Please keep in mind that if you have other programs on your machine that use our technology, they may cease to function without these files and registry keys.

If you have the latest version of our technology, then you can go to the Radiate item in your start menu and choose "Advertising"->"Uninstall".

I hope this helps.

Thanks,
Jeremy

Although I am totally against such software that sends information about anything I do, I can read between the lines and see that M$ is trying to push 3rd party software out of business, or out of competition. I mean, when you get right down to it all that ME offers is a replacement to 3rd party disc recovery programs with sys restore, ME also boasts it's own programs for Image editing and scanning; however, all of the replacement programs from ME are under par, but by making their OS incompatible with other 3rd party programs the user has little choice but to use the programs that come with ME, or use other programs offered by M$. Not a stupid move by M$ because the majority of ME users have no clue one way or the other (new home pc users), they only know that their OS worked fine before they installed the accursed 3rd party program. Those of use that know ME is to blame simply reformat and reinstall windows 98se. This is where I think ME makes it's biggest mistake, once new users become experienced users they will realize what a peace of junk OS they are using and decide to install 98se and they probably will not buy it because a friend or someone they know has it and a burner. Why spend the money when M$ screwed 'em? Of coarse, ME could simply be the transition to .net (whistler). MORE MONEY. ME would actually not be so bad if IE 5.5 (where most of the trouble stems from) could be uninstalled, but it cannot and if you try to use winMElite to uninstall IE 5.5 that just opens another can of worms. Well, then let's all move over to NT 5.0 (win 2000), not if your a gamer and not if your a casual home user that doesn't want to burn the brain cells figuring how to make it work. What this all comes down to is that M$ really doesn't know a thing about making a good OS and have only slightly beefed up win95 with their upgrades. What M$ should do is buy out Xerox and let them finish what THEY started.
he he he he he.... I am just in a bitching mood!

Hi snert,
you sound rather inteligent, what I wrote was simply my honest opinion. There is a lot more wrong with ME than just my two cents here. I was hoping the sp1 for IE 5.5 would resolve some issues, but it did not. Win98se is fine for me, you just keep on trouble shooting ME until your hair falls out... LOL!! BTW, if ME was doing so well for you I guess you would not have to visit this forum.... Roger, Over!

Don't you folx get it ?

Windoze ME, by design, dimishes support for apps and devices.

M$ hopes to that ME will train the vast user base to accept more limited compatabilities/performance ... thus paving the way for their inevitably lame "grand convergance" with looming "whistler" OS.

Live again...redeploy Win98se.
