I am trying to change the startup screen (logo.sys) on my new Dell P4. I have completely removed the logo.sys files, but the Dell startup screen still appears (it is the normal ME splash screen, but with "Provided By Dell" written across the top). Any idea how to remove this, or what it might be named? I searched my entire computer for an image or .sys file that it could be and couldn't find a thing. Thanks!

What screen are you talking about? The one that hides the BIOS or the one that appears when Windows is loading?? If you are refering to the first one that is in your BIOS. You can not do anything about it! Logo.sys is not kept in C:\ since Win98. To chang it simply add any image (?x?) no greater than 256 colors saved as .SYS to the above location. Your machine will display the image you added instead of the one provided by Dell/osoft. See for your self. They did this for 2 reasons. Windows will not load if the splash screen is not present(even though it will). A great opertunity for product branding. Like wearing a Budwiser T shirt!!!

You're right...it's the BIOS screen, now that I think about it. The stupid thing is, if I decide to install Whistler in a year, my computer will still say "Windows ME, Provided by Dell" when I boot.

Oh, well...thanks for your help.

I can tell you a "BLACK DIAMOND WAY" to get rid of it! Find out what company made the board for Dell. Like is it an Intel 815??
Intel has a kit that you can download from their site to create those BIOS splash screens. It will flash the USER area of the BIOS. You can create your own image and save it as a .BIN use the Intel flash utility and BAM its gone. Wait untill your warrenty just about runs out and Flash away. This way if it fails you just say,"Yea man, my computer messed up and it willent turn on and stuff." They will replace tha board and throw the one you messed up in a pile of all the other boards that are messed up!! That is a "BLACK DIAMOND TIP!!"

I am sure it is an Intel board...since I ordered the system the day P4 was available, and I doubt Dell had made anything proprietary yet. I'll give it a whirl. By the way, are you a skier?

Thanks.

Uh...I think that you don't know what you are talking about. First off all Dells, Gateways, Compaqs, Microns, etc. use propriaty hardware!!! If you order a system and are the first on the block to have in this case a P4, I'm sure that you realize that Intel works directly with the OEM's first! The OEM's order large quantities of parts and allways get their orders filled first. After a while RETAIL boards come out and around the same time the 2nd party boards start to ship! If he flashes the BIOS with the Intel flash instead of the Dell flash his warrenty is void. Further more the actual features of his system could vary from the Intel retail model. For instance Intel makes a board called "The Seattle"; Gateway has a Intel 440 BX board made by Intel that if you look at it you would swear they were the same, the Gateway versin is configured for a CUSTOM power supply. Also Intel 's version has one less PCI slot and two ISA slots. On the other foot the Gateway has only one ISA slot. Well if you use the Intel flash on it instead of the Gateway flash the board becomes unbootable. If you did get it to work you would find that Intel also uses BRANDING LOGOS. You would go from DELL INSIDE to INTEL INSIDE. Get the software that the OEM's use to brand the BIOS and make your own!! Nope I don't ski!!

That big ol Dell splash screen on the BIOS boot, their is an option in the BIOS settings to remove it...

I believe that its in the advanced tab and at the bottom of the list.

The simple way to get rid of the Dell Splash at start-up is simple. Reboot your system and press delete to enter the Bios Set-up. Tab until you see quickboot/quiet boot changing this will eliminate the screen as is described in the info displayed on this screen.
