I purchased windows me from a computer repair store they reloaded Windows ME on my computer. When I picked up my computer my newly purchased copy of windows me was unopened. On start up it shows the Windows ME screen ( Logos.sys) within that same screen in the upper right is the words "Distributed by Then the name of the store. I have attempted to change mt splash screen and am unable to find the logo they have installed on the splash screen.I have checked oemlogo, logos.sys, logow.sys. They wrote this to the software before installation. How do I change this to have my customized logo come up. Which I had before they reloaded ME. I rename logos.sys it does nothing

I seem to remember that there were several places where the Logo.sys etc reside. Do a search on your hard drive for *logo*.sys. See what comes up and see if you can find it that way.

The bootup splash screen is called "logo.sys" and is located in the root of drive C (C:\) as a hidden file.

format, it wipes everything./.. If you want to clense your system, download windowblinds or something and set it to default. Microsoft also has em on their website.

You say the repair shop install me for you and gave you an unopened copy? lots of people do this. they use a single copy to install windows on several machines and give you a copy of the OS with a valid liscense. Formatting and clean install will remove any drivers or software the repair shop installed for you.
Windows ME doesnt require/have a logo.sys like previous versions of windows 9x. However if you create a logo.sys splash and place it in C:\ windows will use it by default. It sounds ike this company has done this. To verify go to
start/settings/control panel/folder options/view tab/check "show hidden files and folders" and Uncheck hide protected operating system files then apply and ok and open windows explorer. You should see "logo.sys" (C:\logo.sys)if you do delete it and the original windows splash will appear at startup. If you dont find a logo.sys i cant be of any help. Someone else may have an idea if you post back.
logos.sys is shutdown splash, ive only seen this once as windows powers off my pc when i choose to shutdown.
logow.sys is waiting to shutdown which you probably will never see with windows me. atleast i havent.
Window Blinds is a cool program but eats resources while making it look pretty.

I did a search for logos and logow the only one I can change is my signoff screen. I place a logos in the windows root and my cpu still starts with the screen distributed by the repair shop name. ME does not regonize the logos.sys command. Some how it is ignored.

Thanks for you responses

info i saved off some site

In previous version of windows the startup and shutdown images were stored in "C:" named logo.sys and logos.sys. These files could be opened in MS paint and edited. In windows ME however this has changed. To change these in windows ME Open up MS paint go to image/then attributes and change the width to 320 and the height to 400. Use this stage to create any image you like with the drawing tools or importing any image you choose . Make sure that your finished product is still 320X400 or it will not work properly. Now to save it go to File/save/..type in "logo.sys" for the startup image and "logos.sys" for the shutdown image make sure the drop down file type box is set to all file types and save the bitmap to C:. Windows will see these files and use them rather than the default windowsME images. If you ever want to go back to the originial images just delete the ones you have created.

Ken i notice you keep mentioning logos and not logo. logos.sys exists in windows me. This is the shutdown splash. Black screen, orange text. Says Safe to turn off your computer. This has nothing to do with the startup logo.sys (no s after logo).
If a logo.sys does not exist C:\logo.sys even after youve changed the settings in folder options allowing you to view hidden files as outlined in my previous post i dont know what to tell you. I dont know how the repair shop could have changed your Windows ME startup splash screen so that it would display the companies name. logo.sys does not exist by default in windows. It should not be there. If a logo.sys exists delete it.

I used a utility called "YerWinLogo" to replace start-up/shut-down screens, and made up a number of 320wide by 400high bmp's with cartoon characters (e.g., someone about to axe their PC, with text "Divide by two error - switch off"), and had them cycle in random mode. I also use a function on the freeware "TweakUI" program to not have the start-up screen (I like to see the start-up information in glorius DOS font).

PS, don't tell Bill Gates but my desktop is a pic of stormy clouds with the legend "WindowSoft Microbes 98ME by Microshaft". You've got to let these operating systems know who's boss.........

The logo screen in Windows Me is does not exits - it is inside IO.SYS on the c:\ drive, so i shoudltnt think that i can be edited, but if you put a LOGO.SYS in the root of the bootup drive, it will register the logo.sys as the logo screen

Get a grip people.......on windows ME...the startup logo is embedded in a file called IO.sys........but if you put a new logo.sys in your c:/windows directory...it will default to that 1.
No need to use any software to change it.......just take any pic you want.....open it in paint......edit it.....change dimensions to 320 by 400 8 bit rgb for a total of 127K.
and slap it in your windows folder.....end of story !....sigh

To change the splash start up screen in Windows ME, you need to create a bmp (paint) graphic with the dimensions of 320 X 400 (8bit rgb). After you save the file, you will need to rename it to "logo.sys" and place it in C:\

That's all there is to it! Have fun!
