lockup installing me

During the re-installation of ME I get to the point of seting up hardware and plug and play. 17 minutes to complete and my system locks up. tried several tips from microsoft none worked. is there any way to get past or end the install. thanks

Did you add new hardware to your computer earlier- before this new re-installation?

No I did not install any new hardware.I defrag my hard drive over night- usual maint. next day when went to use I received a message certain files were missing or corrupt I decide to reinstall me. big mistake. Went to ms support followed article # 262381 comp hang on hadware detect, no luck, followed article # 194271 me hangs on hardware dect. no luck. system does run in safe mode. reset the bios/cmos still no luck ran scandisk in safe mode completed fine?? any idea's ???

I assume you have your cmos/bios set to plug and play option.Try the re-install with only the keyboard and mouse hooked up.This appears to be a hardware conflict.

Do you have a real PS/2 keyboard and mouse or some kind of USB/Wireless thing? Was it not working before this? Why are you reinstalling?
