Hi All,
Out of the blue, my Virus software(Ontrack Sys Suite 4.0) started locking up on Driver5.cab . If I run a scandisk, it shows no problem. The HD is kinda new, and the old one is still in w/the OS, so I tried it on the other HD....same problem.
Just to rule whatever I could out, I renamed the cab file (had to do from command prompt), and now I get same results w/renamed file. I then extracted the cab from the OEM CD, leaving the renamed one in place, and I get the same result (with both the renamed and newly extracted ones).
The only big change on the system is that just the other day I downloaded and installed DVD2SVCD. Backed up a DVD w/no problems, but my guess is that some driver and/or dll that's contained in DVD2SVCD is conflicting w/a dll or driver in Driver5.cab.
I deleted the properly-named cab and left the old one out there, and I seem to be running fine w/out it (as long as I don't do a virus scan).
Oh yea, I can view the contents w/Winzip if the cab is renamed , but I can't extract a list (command prompt or otherwise, on both HD's)in any way if the name isn't changed
I know all of that is a mouthfull, but ANY help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Lou
PS I CAN run an online scan w/ Trend (Housecall?), which is what my AV engine is, but it locks if I scan w/Norton online.

hello
might be a virus or other male where hideing on your system.try doing virus scan from safe mode dose it lock than?

Go to PC Cillin Free online virus scan online and try that one. See if you have the same problem. Odds are, you virus program just sucks.
Go here, it will take about 30 minutes because you are doing it online but at least you will know without paying for another virus program.

I've already done an online scan @ trend (which is who supplies the AV engine for System Suite), but as I've got nothing to lose, I'll give it another try.
No response back from me means no luck.
Thanks,
Lou

OK, went to housecall & did the scan (again).
Weird...I had renamed Driver5.cab to .old on c:, and the scan went right through. I had not renamed the file on D: (old boot hd), and it locked up on that one. Then I renamed a .doc file to Driver5.cab and scanned the dir that it was in...no problem.
Also scanned in safe mode...no problem UNTIL it got to D: w/the correctly named file.
I'm open to suggestions!
Thanks (again) in advance,
Lou

I deleted the Driver5.cab and all renamed versions, ran a virus scan &came up clean.
I go to extract Driver5.cab from oem and I lock up again.
Any ideas?
