Comment:

I have an Etower and I use Windows ME. I have been trying to download virus protection and my computer will not allow me. When I am almost finished downloading it aborts the process. What is causing this problem? I constantly get error messages as well with internet explorer always closing. I have spybot but when it runs error messages constantly pop up as well. I need virus protection, but can't get it to download at all. Can anyone help?

chelly41, SWAG, suspect you have a Trojan. There're some around which won't allow downloading any of the populae AVs as a self preservation thing. See if you can go to one of the online scans @:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/Scanners.htm
Not at all sure if you can download A², but try. Be aware that a virus and a Trojan are similar, but not the same. Many times, an AV detects one it can't clean , other times, it gets missed entirely.
If you need to clean one, A² can do the job and you can get it free @:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4...
among other places.
If it turns out that you need to use it, be sure to update prior to running. They just released a new update recently and it changes all the time. Things are in a constant state of flux. Sometimes you can do things in safe mode not allowed in normal mode.
HTH.

"I constantly get error messages"

Given the enormous number of possible errors, relating the actual message content can be critical to an accurate diagnosis

I'm not one of those who think Bill Gates is the devil. I simply suspect that if Microsoft ever met up with the devil, it wouldn't need an interpreter.

The errors I am getting are *An error in IE and it will now close.* Then it continues to do the same error message with kernel 32, and other programs. I tried what you told me Ed in Texas and it read it found one thing and cleaned it but its still there. I tried A2 in safe mode as well and A2 would not operate in safe mode. We can not pull up any website without the computer kicking us out within a couple minutes. I was surprised I got A2 to download. I have a restore disc but the last time I used it I still could not use any virus programs nor could I download AOL 8.0. Maybe the hard drive has had it?
