if using internet explorer, go to tools>internet options, click the 'advanced' tab, then scroll down to the 'multimedia' heading, make sure 'show pictures' is ticked.

Are you saying that no pictures come up at all on any pages, or just some. It is quite possible that the pages you are looking at have defunct pictures in them is all. But if you are talking all pages then it is possible that the following file types are not associated by default with Microsoft Internet Explorer (Iexplore.exe):
ART image (.art)
GIF image (.gfa, .gif)
JPEG image (.jfif, .jpe, .jpeg, .jpg)

If you don't know how to restore them then just go here http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q262808

Hope this helps,

Well if you check your associations and all are OK. I just would say that the other pics are dead is all.

I have a similar problem from time to time With one of my PC's maybe 25% of the images wont load properly when i go to a site, even this one. I havent tracked it down yet but my guess is the cheapo/slightly damaged (power surge survivor) micromodem.

Usually if i refresh a few times the images load up like they should.

Try right-clicking on the box with the red x, then left-click "show picture". Works 99% of the time for me.

Forgot to ask (just finished a night shift here, brain like jelly)-are you using AOL, by any chance? I only started having the same problem when I changed over from another ISP. Don't know whether it's to do with the slower speed I'm now getting, or less bandwidth, or what.

:) for the record i am not using AOL.

Also the show pics thing never works for me. Our problems might not be related. My highspeed computer and my external modem never have problems its only the box with the junk modem.

Anyone who is using AOL...here is the solution...

AOL 7.0 toolbar...'settings'...'preferences'...'Internet Properties (WWW)'...'web graphics'...check 'never compress graphics'...click ok...

I occasionally get the box with red x but not usually since changing this setting ...it is probably that the picture is not available...or refreshing will sometimes help...

My computer has the same problem with the little boxes with the red exes. The following steps correct the error, but only for the particular page I happen to be viewing.

Go to the menu
select , then
select

My computer displays the error, only ever second or third start-up.
