I had installed Mandrake Lunix and Win ME on a partitioned 60 gig hard drive. When mywife got tired of having to "choose" her OS withing 7 seconds at boot she nagged me enough to get rid of linux (ouch), and at the same time i feltinspired to get back the full 60 gigs for windows and to reformat to get a clean start. I FDISKd to the full 60, format c:, and installed win ME.... but now when i boot up all i see is blue. no error message.. no nothing.. just blue and in some instances it will stripe blue and i vaguley see the Mandrake Linux start up screen (linux failsafe windows floppy)... what is up with this?

E-mail me please.

Did you remove the bootloader for Mandrake (LILO)? Did you also fdisk the linux section (partition)? Delete the partition and format the whole drive.

Hope that helps.

Kevin.

Follow the advice pointed out to you by Kevin.

You need to boot in DOS , run fdisk and select to remove non-dos partitions.

When fdisking, always start, from bottom to top, deleting non-dos partitions first, then logical dos partitions, then extended, and lastly the primary partitions.

Try and get hold of Partition Magic 6 or above. Get a mate to install it then create the boot disks.

Use the boot disks to delete your current parition then create a new FAT32 partition. You shouldn't need to format it again. FDISK has a habit of not dealing with the remants of Linux very well, especially LILO. No matter how many times you FDISK /MBR, chances are it won't work (you might be lucky!). Parition magic on the other hand will do a grand job, including restoring your boot sector.

After that you shouldn't have any problem installing ME.
