i have a sony vaio laptop, and i bought it with a cd/dvd combo drive, lately i haven't been able to play any cds on it, however, when i put a dvd in, the dvd plays perfectly fine, so i bought an external usb cd rom, and plug it in the driver updated automatically, and i thought it was all set, but then i put a cd in the new cd rom and it did the same thing it does when i put a cd into the laptop cd rom, the black screen with a blue box comes up saying error and then the screen freezes, i don't know what to do, i think i may have to uninstall the cdrom that came with the laptop or disable it, but im not sure how to or if thats the problem, could it be a software error? please help me

You need to determine which music CD player program you have setup as default and repair it. Start by checking Windows Media Player in Start - Programs.
Windows, when it detects a music CD, starts the default music CD player. Windows installs Windows Media Play by default. You may have installed another one like Real Player or WinAmp. But it has a problem and need to be rebuilt.

hello all,
i want to find out if it is only one CD that gives u problems or all the CDs give u the problem?
the try and uninstall media player or what ever player u use and the re-install it.
hope u get something out of this s---!

my cd rom won't read any cd's, only thing it seems to read is a dvd, its cd/dvd combo drive, should i just disable it? cuz i have an external cd rom, but that won't even work either, thats why i think it maybe a software problem, but i don't know whats the problem, if i have to disable it, how do i uninstall a cdrom?

I think I have a similar problem with my Vaio... the CD/DVD drive stopped working suuddenly (which I guess coudl jstu be the hardware) BUT, the internal floppy sotpped working at exactly the same time- so it makes me think it's a software conflict or dirver missing or something... Anyone ever heard of anythign similar?
