hello pros..I'm trying to figure out a problem with my girlfriends laptop, it's gateway solo 2150, it works fine except for about the last month there has been a tiny white line running verticle across the screen about a quarter way down from the top of the screen. any advice greatly appreciated, thank's..charlie

A white line would be a problem with the computer, not the OS. I'd pinpoint a Pentium III around 1999, it's possible the screen is going now.

... actually, 'pinpoint' means "to locate exactly" - the word you want would be 'guess' - and indeed, that model (but not all PIII machines) seems to date back to 1999-2000 or thereabouts

Yes, a display fault seems likely, and yes, that's 'hardware'

I'm not one of those who think Bill Gates is the devil. I simply suspect that if Microsoft ever met up with the devil, it wouldn't need an interpreter
