When attempting to activate hyperlinks in forums or elsewhere (addresses, etc.), I receive this message:
"Cannot send mail. No mail program is set up to send mail using Internet shortcuts." Help appreciated. Thanks,

Hi JimmyC,

In Internet Explore click on Tools and Internet Options.

Select the Programs Tab.

You will see a drop down box next to E-mail:

Select the one you use and click on Apply.

Mesich; Thanks for the response. I did as you suggested, and the only entry is Hotmail. I use Outlook Express. I try to add OE and all I get is the box highlighted. Thanks again,

mesich; I did the above "Click on General Tab, and click default". It did not correct the problem, but it did change my homepage. I don't know what else it did though. Thanks,

JimmieC, I think you must be looking under internet options.

Try as Mesich said-

In Outlook Express click on Tools and Options.

Len; Your absolutely right, and I apologize to mesich for my lack of attention. I was fixed on IE for some reason. Now the problem is the default tab that mesich refers to is dark, and I am not able to activate it. Thanks,

That's OK Jimmy and Thanks Len.

The problem is a registry entry then. I suggest you first try and run Repair for Internet Explorer which will also Repair Outlook Express.

Go to Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.

Highlight Internet Explorer.

Select Add/Remove.

From the options click on Repair

Select OK.

This should repair the registry entries that associates Outlook Express and Internet Explorer.

I wish it were just one but unfortunatly it involves about 20 different registry entries.

In other words, I hope the repair corrects the registry entries. :)

Mesich; I have no mention of Internet Explorer in my Add/Remove section. Would that not be part of my problem? This is a partial listing:
Microsoft Encarta 97 Encyclopedia
Microsoft Encarta Encyclopedia Standard 2001
Microsoft Outlook Express 6
Microsoft Picture It! Publishing 2001
Microsoft Word 2000 SR-1
Microsoft Works 2001 Setup Launcher
Microsoft Works 6.0
It shows (IE5.5) in Belarc, as being installed. Thanks,

JimmieC, I could be wrong but I believe you only get that option in add/remove if you have upgraded Internet Explorer.

No Len you are not wrong. This is very common.

Try the following:

Click on Start and Run.
Type rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE5Maintenance "C:Program FilesInternet ExplorerSetupSETUP.exe" /g "C:WINDOWSIE Uninstall Log.Txt

You will then get the menu with the Repair Option.

Better yet copy and paste the above in Bold Text into the Run Menu.

Ok, I have read over the thread again and find it interesting that Belarc Advisor shows you have Internet Explorer 5.5 yet you have Outlook Express 6.0.

Start Internet Explorer and select Help and About Internet Explorer at the top.

What version does it show there?

Do the same in Outlook Express.
Select Help and About Outlook Express.

What does it show also?

Mesich; This may mean something to you. In Belarc I have two listings:
Microsoft Corporation - Internet Explorer 6 Version 6.00.2800.1106 *
Microsoft Corporation - Internet Explorer Version 5.50.4134.100 *
Would that be part of the problem? Thanks,

Jimmie,

Sounds as though you have upgraded to Internet Explorer 6.0 which would also upgrade Outlook Express to 6.0.

For some reason though it still launches the older I.E. 5.5 yet launches Outlook Express 6.0. This would explain as to why I.E. is not associating itself with the new O.E. 6.0.

I am not sure as to why it is launching the older version.

I would first back up my mail and favorites.

Also if you use the address book in Outlook Express back it up.

Do you know how to restore the Accounts in Outlook Express?
