keyboard lockup?

I purchased a new computer which is running fine but when I tried to set up my old Gateway with monitor, keyboard, mouse, and CPU, I could turn it on but nothing came up on the monitor--except the test that said the monitor was working properly. The keyboard lock light is on and stays on when the machine is on. Any suggestions?
