When I start up in Safe Mode my keyboard becomes disabled. I need to key in a file and nothing happens! Is there any way to remedy this because I'm having difficulty finding this particular file otherwise. Thanks in advance for your help. Stan

Does your keyboard connect to the PC via a USB socket?
If it connects via the usual plug, it should work without Windows being loaded at all.
What did you want to do in safe mode? There may be a way round it. Keyboard can act as a mouse so I expect it to work the other way round also..... (if only I could remember).

No, my keyboard is not connected via USB socket. I have a Trojan I want to delete and using Safe Mode is apparently the only way I can dispose of it. I've tried every other way without success. The Trojan resides in my Restore Archives. I'm trying to key in a file in start/search/for files or folders and my keyboard does not respond at all. I hope this helps. Thanks, Stan

You need to disable system restore and then run the virus scan, either the one you used to find the trojan or an online one. Reenable system restore after.
And what trojan is it ?

Response Number 3 has got it.
Restore is a protected area. You have to disable restore, restart the PC then re-enable restore. This cleans out all the restore points and the Trojan with it.In Win ME, to clear the RESTORE FOLDER's contents.....
MY COMPUTER - PROPERTIES - PERFORMANCE - FILE SYSTEM - TROUBLE SHOOTING. Check the box next to DISABLE SYSTEM RESTORE - APPLY OK then shut down PC for 2 minutes. Restart the PC and re-enable SYSTEM RESTORE.You may want to do another virus scan to make sure the blighter is really gone.
Post back with your results.Stick with Computing.net
We can all learn from each other (and it's free!!).

I've already run numerous scans, I just can't eliminate them because they're apparently "active" or "in use' and that's why, I believe, Safe Mode is suggested. The virus' are TROJ_TOONCOM.B and TROJ_DLOADER.DZ. By bypassing the start-up programs using Safe Mode I should be able to key in the file and delete them but my keyboard will not respond in Safe Mode for some reason. Thanks

You have been told how to start dealing with this.
DISABLE SYSTEM RESTORE and re run the virus scan
Make sure you re enable system restore after.

Sorry Viking, you and I were posting at the same time. I will disble System Restore and re-scan. Thanks everyone. Stan

Good for you!! You're doing a healthy deed for yourself. I'll let you know how I made out a bit later. Thanks again. Stan
