Help.....
I keep getting Kernel32.dll errors and I don’t know what to do next. I am using Windows ME and a trial version of Explorer 6 but the fault still appeared using 5.5 The problem causes my processor to run at 93%+ constantly causing it to over heat and eventually lock up. I have run diagnostic progs but nothing shows up I have also downloaded all the latest drivers for my hardware but to no avail, can some one suggest a solution before there is a fatality.

Thanks
Mark

Wow, those are long error messages... and I know not a word of what they're saying. But maybe this page'll help:

http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q155/1/16.asp

Did you also try Ctrl+Alt+Del to end any programs that you don't need running?

:-)

Software doesn't make your processor overheat!!

Broken fan or no fan makes your processor overheat!

What diagnostics programs are you running? I see a fault mentioning "Fix It". These in themself can cause more problems than they fix (deleting required registry entries, etc) and some cause the kind of CPU usage you are descibing. Try closing down your "Fix it" and see what happens to your CPU usage. I had one of these diagnostic programs running on an old Cyrix MII 300 machine and it constantly caused faults and would spike the CPU usage at 100% even when idle until I disabled it then CPU usage dropped to 17% when idle.

Steve is right.

No application or function of the OS should cause your processor to overheat. A dead CPU fan or gross overclocking will.

I had a similar problem once, and diagnosed heat as the cuplrit. Power your machine off for a few hours(the CPU/heat sink should be room temp). Fire it back up and if the problem occurs within a half hour or so of use..heat is probably not the problem. If it doesn't, it should be software/OS related.

When my processor was having a problem with heat you could tell: when I put my finger on the heat sink, I literally got burned.

I put Fix It 2000 on in the hope it would solve the issue so I know its not that although it does cause its own problems. The explorer problem can happen at any time even when the computer is idle but you can guarantee it happens a few mins or seconds after dial up. I have used diagnostics from magazines but they have been removed. Again the problem was there before the diag prog. This error message only occurred when I installed ME and its not gona let me put 98 back on without formatting the HD, that’s the last thing I want to do
Steve, Mike
The fan is working; it is the correct rating in-fact the sync and fan are rated for a higher processor. The CPU temp goes from a happy 118deg to 131deg in a few mins once the message appears.

You didn't mention degrees F or C??
Regardless Windows systems running FAT32 run the processor at full clock speed at all times. For instance a P-III 500 runs at 500MHz at all times. Windows 2K has a feature that idles the proc when in a low use phase. Regardless you have a hardware issue related to the following: power supply,
faulty processor, faulty motherboard. Take the system to your local shop and have them test the system. To troubleshoot this on your own you will need loaner parts to swap the above mentioned items. You might also want to check that the thermal tape or compound is present between the processor and fan/heatsink.
If the hardware all checks out then you must preform a clean install of your OS.....sorry but those are the steps. Consider this you are getting temprature readings based on a thermistor located on your main board. Like a red light on a car dash-board you could be getting a fault reading that is false. Usually when a system begins to run hot the main proc voltage is lowered to protect the processor from damage, everything runs in slow motion before the ultimate failure or prepetual restarts. If you are not certain take it to the shop.
