First of all check if your PC is infected with the Win95.cih virus. Go to http://housecall.antivirus.com/pc_housecall/ for a free scan.

If it's clear (because that error occurs with this particular virus), then have a look here
http://www.all-windows.com/kernel32.html

Also do point 16 of this post, and then all the other points too:

The Dr Watson message about mmtask is just a bug in Windows, ignore it, everybody has it.

After trying a few of the above. If no success try the following:
Make sure you have all windows updates
windowsupdate.microsoft.com - select products
allow any program installation and wait to see what updates are available for your machine. Then download all critical updates, even if you have to reboot and come back to do each one. Any updates that are security related should be updated as well. You don't need every update available so read everything carefully before you update (except critical ones).
If all else fails, START SHUTDOWN reboot to DOS and type cd windows (enter) and then type del win386.swp (enter) and then reboot the machine and see if that helps.
If you are able, edit the config.sys and add:
files=65
buffers=40
stacks=64,512
(save)
and reboot.
