Hi,
4 months ago I had a Pc store build me a custom made Pc. BIG MISTAKE as I had not enough knowledge in what to get.
Configration
PIII, 800MHzEB, 128SDRam, 20 GB Ultra DMA HD, 32MBTNT2 M64, HP CDRW 8*4*32, Pioneer 16x DVD.
I had him install WIN 98 SE and Microsoft Office 2000.
After a week I started having all kinda problems. Errors with blue screen(Fatal error occured in xxxxx in VXD) started and kept on freezing the PC. It went to a stage that I formated my HD.
Mont aftrer formating I upgraded my OS to win Me and then the real problems begain.
All the fatal errors came back, 90% of the time when I am surfing.
I have done all critical updates from microsoft, I run Scandisk every other day. It showed error once but corrected it automaticly.
I have done System retore to previous date several time, it only solves problem for a day or 2 and then bak to errors.
Latest problem is every program I start there is a error poping up. "Wiseupdt had cause an error in Kernel 32.dll"
Now it had gone to that extent that I can't surf for more then 10 minuts before the browsers freezes up. (both IE 5.5 and Netscape 6).
I have very limited understanding of what has gone wrong.
Please Help............

Kernel32.dll is the heart of WinMe. It duties include loading apps, allocating virtual memory, scheduling and running program threads, and handling file input and output.
It's possible a fault in physical memory might be causing WinMe to throw out these fatal errors.
You can check this by going to Start, Run, type msconfig, and click OK.
Select Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Information. In the Help and Support window, select Tools, System Configuration Utility.
In the General tab, click Advnaced to display the Advanced troubleshooting Settings dialog box.
Activate the Limit memory to check box. Use the spinner to select the maximum number of megabytes you want your system to use.
Click OK to return to the System Configuration Utility. Click OK. WinMe asks if you want to restart your computer. Click Yes.
Note that even though the Limit memory to spinner can go as low as 4mb, WinMe requires 32mb to operate. Therefore never select a value less than 32mb. If after restricting the memory your problems go away, you know you have a defective memory chip.
As the unit is only 4 months old you should return it to the dealer and let him handle it under warranty.

hi stefan,
I also had problems similar yours before. After I change my motherboard with the same brand and type the problems magicly disappear. my conclusion : there is a problems in our motherboard chipset, try to replace your motherboard, because problem in chipset or memory cause instability of the whole system.
my system is P III 533B, mobo : eagle, chipset via apollo 133A, ram : visipro 256MB PC133.
The only problem now is my system cannot play VCD using PowerDVD 2.55 (kernel32 and other errors so many times), anyone can give me any suggestion???
regards,
DANTON

I've also been having nearly the same problems with a nearly new machine, except I haven't gotten the kernel error pop-up. I'm no expert, but from asking around, it seems to be popular consensus that Windows ME is a terrible OS at this time because it conflicts with so many software programs. A possible problem is that there are so many software programs running at once that the computer cannot process it all at once and freezes. This happened to me very often and I had to delete several programs. I still have trouble, but I'm going to try to delete Netscape, because I believe that IE and Netscape are conflicting. If that fails, then I'm just going to give up and take it back to the store.

Thanks for all your advices, I tried what fred suggested, it seems to work for an hour or so till everthing went back to how it was before. IE 5.5 start freezing up, and to make it worse if I use task manger to end a task for IE the whole PC freezez and had to be rebooted.
Please send more advices.

I can relate. . .I have the same b.s. happen to my computer and I can't refigure out what to do and I need help, just like stefan, to fix it.
thank you.
