I have been having a very inconvient problem for quite some time now, and have decided to make yet another attempt of solving it.

I am very convinced that it has to do with some java files and dll's of the like.
I will eliminate a few suggestions you might give me, such as regsvr32 jscript.dll and vbscript.dll.

I have tried that plenty of times. I have tried replacing jscript with a new version, then I try re-registering it, and same problem... has failed.

Some of the issues I have been experiencing consist of things such as, the Control Panel being completely empty, as well as the C: drive appearing empty as it says there are... x number of items. I can view contents in other folders such as 'My Documents' however.

Another symptom is that of Windows Media player's failure to open. Upon attempting that, "An internal application error has occured" useless to re-install with a newly downloaded version, as another error presents itself, probably linked to some dll file or another not doing its job.

I have researched upon problems such as this.. in which people say to re-register Jscript.dll. However it is acting as though it does not exist, even when I put a new version of it in C:/Windows/System and System32.

Suggestions? Much appreciated

__SamZee__, pure SWAG, take a look at start>settings>control panel>internet options>advanced and be sure the correct version of Java appears there. If you're trying to use an older version, it doesn't have the needed features.

How to Check If You Have the Microsoft VM
To determine if you have the Microsoft VM installed on your computer:
If you are running Windows 98 or Windows Millennium Edition (Windows Me)
On the taskbar at the bottom of your screen, click Start, and then click Run.
Type: command
At the command prompt, type: jview
If a message displays information about Java, you have the Microsoft VM installed on your computer.
If a message displays Bad command or file name, you do not have the Microsoft VM installed on your computer.
Hope this helps you check for any rpobs with the install of java on your PC ?
Good Luck Nick
