I cannot get a proper answer foe this. Some say Me CD is bootable while others say it is not? I need to know for certain whether Me is bootable as I have to do a clean installation. I do not have a floppy drive. Thanks

I formated and clean instalation my HD with no problem.
I put in the Me CD ((that come with my computer when i purchased the computer)), and then it showed me an option list.
It give me an option to Format and restore my HD as when my computer was new.
Good Luck. Buddy

In my BIOS I can select what I want as
1st, 2nd and so on for boot and also
the drive. If no disk is in the floppy, it will search for a CD in the drive that is bootable.
This is all in my BIOS but truthfully I have never tested it to do so.
I have a BIOS that is pretty old now so if you have a current BIOS I am sure it will work the same.

Some say yes some say no.. I have an upgrade and full version [retail] me cd. Neither one is bootable. [My system supports bootable cd's]
Recovery CD's are usually bootable cd's. If you have one of these that came with your system you should be fine.
If you have a retail ME cd.. I would have to agree with bob [not his posting style.. just the advice:)] .. stick it in and restart the computer. If it begins to run then the answer is Yes.. If it doesnt begin to run..
Enter bios and verify that the cd-rom is set as the first boot device.
1.cdrom
2.floppy
3.hdshould be fine.
Then try it again.. if it still doesnt run then your me cd is not a bootable cd.

Here are Microsoft's instructions from

Insert the Windows Millennium Edition CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
At the command prompt, type the following commands, pressing ENTER after each command:
CD-ROM drive letter:
setupFollow the instructions on the screen. If you are using the Windows Me Upgrade, you must insert a CD-ROM or floppy disk from a previous version of Windows.
Continue to follow the instructions on the screen to complete Setup.
If you need instructions about how to set up a new hard disk for installation, view the Cleanhd.txt file on the following Microsoft Web site:
