Comment:
iomon, wuauboot, and wpschifx recently appeared in my "close program" box. They're running in the background and I've noticed a slowdown in my internet speed. Anyone know what these programs are and how I can get rid of them?

The "iomon" is your anti-virus software. If you press Start, run then type msconfig, go to start up tab and check to see which programs are running the background. You can change these settings but must always leave systray, loadpowerprofile and task monitor. In the right hand side it will direct you to where the programs are, if you can't interprete them.

Do I need to run wuauboot.exe, and is mal- or non-functioning wuauboot the reason my IE5 seems to be running much more slowly than under Win 98?

Wuauboot is screwing up my computer. It's causing my Scandisk to not work, I can't install virus protection software, and whenever the file appears on the screen so I can delete it - even for a split second, the computer messes up. And almost no programs will install. What do I do??? Help!
