First step is if you have system restore turned on disable it for now, next step is to grab these files and run them in safe mode when ready:

Spybot
Stinger
Adaware
Hijack this
F-prot
All are free for home use and work GREAT....

Everyone likes different things but I have settled on AVG (free) have it runnung on 5 machines at home and never a problem since...

Keep the old stuff running

In your orginal post I thought you said your OS is ME, if so shut off system restore as that can cause these things to happen......IMHO run them all one at a time, reboot each time, and do all of this in safe mode.......

Keep the old stuff running

Running ME. Had the Trojan virus (about blank) and have been working hours to delete the files with the date and time of infection. Some freeware didn't remove all corrupted files.
