I want to Unistall/ Reinstall My version of I/E
Should be easy eh ?
Not so
If I Contol Panel/Add/Remove programme I receive a dialogue box with three radio buttons
1) Add a component
2) Repair I/E
3) Restore previous versionOption 3 is 'grayed out'
How do I unistall from here ?
my version is
6.0.2800.1106 (Update version SP1)
Help please
Keith

You can't uninstall IE. It's deeply integrated into Windows. You can do a Repair, but that's about it.
Life is more painless for those who are brainless.

Thanks (I think) :-)) Jennifer
I did believe Me was the last Windows O/S to allow a simple 'uninstall' of I/E.
Wrong again eh ?
Why do you think option 3 (return to original version) is grayed out ?
Keith

I apologise for labouring this point. After Jennifer gave me the bad news I have been trawling around Microsoft help.
This page seems to suggest it is possible to uninstall (or return to previous version) of I/E
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/293907/?sd=RMVP#XSLTH3148121123120121120120
My system will not co-operate
1) I am not allowed an uninstall
2) Of the three options - Add a component/Repair/Restore previous.
The one I really need (restore previous) is grayed out
Anyone know a fix ?
I hope so
Keith

Did you try the command near the bottom of the url you posted?
There is a file available on this page that claims to remove IE6:
I've never used it myself, but the rest of the information on the page seems to be valid.

Hi Leroi
Greetings from England and thanks for your posting.
Yes I did try the command but that just bought up the identical dialogue box with the wretched radio button 3 grayed out as before.
I have downloaded the remove tool (thanks for the link to let me do that).
I now have to psyche myself up to use it.
At my level I am terrified using tools that I am not familiar with.
The fear being I might dig a great big hole for myself that I can not climb out of.
I am going to take a walk then have a stiff drink and see if I am feeling brave enough to hit the key :-))
Thanks again for your help.
Keith

You're welcome.
It's a very good idea to have a good imaging program like Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image, that way if you mess something up badly, you can just reload the image (from CD/DVD or external hard drive) and be back where you started so you can try again.
I think it's one of the better software investments you can make. Ghost (2003) has saved me a couple of times when I made some serious mistakes.

Option 3 is usually grayed out for one of two reasons:
1. You are still on the first IE version that was installed on the machine.
2. After installing a new IE version you elected at sometime to delete the "go back" files.

Hi Derek
No news other than to say I paid attention to Leroi's good advice and backed up before I summoned up the nerve to use the I/E uninstall tool. Not for the first (or the last time) I have cause to be grateful to the groupKeith
