My internet explorer keeps crashing, with a message.
Internet Explorer is experiencing problems with User.exe
usually when i'm typing in an address or a search string. I've tried repair internet explorer in add/remove programs, but this has not fixed it.

Boot into Safe Mode, or better yet with a Windows ME startup diskette and go to the C:\Windows folder. Locate your userID.PWL file and delete it. If it is corrupted it can cause this type of problem.
When you boot into normal mode, it will ask for a new Network user ID and Password. If you are using one, you will have to enter it again. If not, just leave the password blank and continue.
This usually solves about 1/3 of the errors associated with USER.exe.

I get that error also not and then ,not to often ,after a restart all is well . Whenever I do get the error ,it always happens when I log off the internet ,so I assumed it had something to do with my ISP software ? Is this the same for you ? If so then I would try uninstalling and reinstalling your software from your ISP. Make them aware of this error ,and get instructions from them on how to uninstall and reinstall their app ! I already have the instructions ,however i have not done the process, cause as I stated the user.exe error , has not popped up in a long time ,so untill it becomes a real pain ,I will leave well enough alone ! Good luck ,Nick
