First let me say what a great web site this is. A fantastic resource! Anyway, to the point, I have an what I think is an ISDN connection (that's the one that piggybacks the phone signal right??). My ISP is Verizon and I have a 56k AC-link voice modem. I have no problem connecting to the internet but once I'm on-line I lose connection. This happen quite frequently (in fact this is the third time I've typed this message). It doesn't seem to be triggered by any specific activity. It could happen while I'm accessing e-mail or reading a BB. The little noise filter that came with my ISDN set-up has an indicator LED labeled USB. While usually on, this light extinguishes when I lose my connection - but my computer thinks I'm still on-line and won't let me simply redial. The only fix is a complete windows re-boot. This problem seems to be getting progessivly worse thought that may just be frustration. CAN ANYBODY HELP?
Things don't sound right here - you say you have a 56k Modem yet you think you're using (either 64k or 128k) ISDN. So far it sounds like the protocol set up in your dial up networking settings, as to use true ISDN you would need to have PPP enabled rather than V120, BUT... I would check with your ISP for the DUN settings for ISDN since it's their equipment you dial into and they would be able to best advise you on this. I would also be certain to check you actually do have ISDN since getting the wrong settings would mean you might not be able to connect at all. In terms of the ISP's kit, their modem drivers have to be able to support the same protocol as you are using. Sometimes if this causes conflicts, it's best to use the V120 setting rather than PPP but this on our networks will only connect you at 64k.
