I am trying to start a home network, AnyPoint Home Network from Intel uses the phone lines at home to connect all your computers. At a cost of about $60 per computer. The only problem, I have no idea if this system has any major problems. If any of you are using this type of network, can you help me with some feed back on this system or any other network you are using. Thank you in advance,
DG

Hi:
I just set up a home network and looked at several options. I found the best and cheapest way was to use the home networking software that ships with Win Me (Internet connection sharing and home networking Wizard), with straight-thru category 5 UTP and a cheap Hub ($29.00 for hub, $20.00 for cables). That's all you need, as Win Me has all the software. With the 5 port hub, I can hook up to 4 computers together. If you just want to hook two together, get a Cross-over cable and just connect the two together.

I have had some experience with the AnyPoint software. I did not enjoy it much.
... but, let me say up front that I was loading it on a Windows 2000 box (yes, the updated, marked for W2k version)... not ME.
The software did a number on my computer. My cpu was clocking at 100% in normal mode and it took a really, really long time to get into safe mode so I could uninstall it. Luckily I had made an ERD before I installed the software or I would have been reloading Windows.
I contacted their support team to see what was up. I was on hold for over an hour... and they were of not much help.
I then tried the email support as this was not urgent. I got booted up the ladder to secondary support. I sent him a Belarc Report from this computer, explained who I was, and everything I had tried. I think I scared him. He never wrote back.
Intel has announced they are coming out with an update to this software, so I will probably try again... When I do, I'll let you know how it goes:):)
I'd like to see it work. It's alot cheaper than the AirPort solution, but appearently quite a bit buggier.:)

BTW... that was the Wireless version... not the use your phone lines for networking your house version.
