Help! I'm at work rather than sat in front of my own PC at the moment, so I can't quote the exact error message, but every time I try to install ME on either a freshly formatted drive or over 98 SE, I get the blue screen proclaiming "An error has occurred in VNET BIOS VXD module number 00006D70" or something similar. Consequently the machine crashes or fails to install the OS properly. It's driving me mad! A friend tells me he had the same problem and eventually gave up. He had a Pentium 3 processor rather than my Thunderbird 1400MHz. Any suggestions?

We had something very simular happen to us awhile back. I finally got so frustrated that I called compaq (thats what our computer is) manufactor and they had me get a whole new ME start up disk ( a set of 2 disks) and reinstall the whole kit and kabootle. It works Ok now.

WinMe has 2 startup disks?? hummm i use only one. and i got only one with my cd.
Anyway - Dave... which stage of your installation do you get the error message? what i mean is it after you boot the computer through the boot disks or while the setup is running...? also you could try using a Win98Se boot disk instead of an WinMe boot disk! thats what i do now!
Cheers

Dave - exactly which stage of the installation did you get this error message?? during boot up or during the main installation?
Also why dont you try using another Me cd if a friend has one or somehting? perhaps your setup files are corrupted.
Btw...you can use a Win98Se boot disk to boot to Me too! infact i prefer to use the 98 boot disk over the Me boot disk.Meichelle - did you say 2 startup disks? i got only one when i bought the cd? are you sure the disks you have are boot disks aka startup disks and not troubleshooting boot disks?? - let me know please
Hope this helps!
cheers

If you have a santa cruz sound card in your system and you can get past the error message and into windows all you have to do is load the driver for the sound card this will work 90% of the time.
GOOD LUCK TO YOU :)
