I am using a dual boot, i have a drive partitioned. I have 98 already installed along with linux. I dont have a HP system but i have a HP system recovery disk set with windows me on it. i want to kno if there is a way that i can fool or corrupt or hack the files or CD or something that will allow me to install windows Me, it doesnt have to be dos, i could install from windows 98 but i have no clue what to do..It tells me it is only used for HP's but im sure there has to be a way..help. please email or just reply, PLEASE

Im pretty sure its possible too but i wouldnt know where to begin. Seems like an awful lot of work when full copies of windows me can be purchased for $25.00-$50.00 now.

To upgrade from 98 to ME, you would need an upgrade disk not a full version anyway and this would be near impossible to convert a HP restore disk into a useable ME upgrade disk.
If you were getting rid of 98 and installing ME on a fresh formatted partition instead, just do what everyone else does - either go buy a full version as in the response above and run setup.exe from the CDrom or borrow a full ME CD from a friend and install in the same way.
I'm not advocating software piracy, I'm just saying that it's the easiest thing to do if you can't spend a few pounds/dollars on a full copy with a manual.
There is a way to convert an OEM disk like the HP one you have into a full Windows ME install but I don't know the website of the software - called desktop somethingorother.
Wawadave (one of our favourite regs in here) knows the software I mean, maybe he could help but like I said it's not easy and is not guaranteed to give you 100% perfect install.Remember - you can't polish a turd.

I have reinstalled Windows ME from a OEM disk(it was from Gateway) it was on a 667c Gateway computer, i had to do a unconditional format (low format) then create a directory called c:\win9xflat then proceeded to install windows me, it may work for some, perhaps not others
