installing windows98 on a compaq

i got a compaq presario 5123sr that came with windows me,i hate windows me and would like to know how to uninstall w/me and install windows 98 on it since compaq dont include the w/me cd instead they create a partition on the HD and call it drive D:where all the windows me files are saved.if i try to boot up to the windows 98 boot disk it wont take me to the menu so i can install w/98 . can anyone help?

Like you,,I too took off ME and went back to 98 SE,,,You will have to fdisk,,which will let you deleat and install a single partition,,,then format and install...I have a Presario 7470,,,work great
