Comment:

I have a new Intel 856 motherboard running a 3.2 GHz P4 processor with 800 MHz bus speed. I use kingston memory chips 400 MHz speed and 1 GB. Is it possible to install windws Me on this system ? I currently use windows XP pro (I was always against it). Please advise me if someone know if it is possible to install Win Me on my system.

Hafedh, is ME your only option? I've run both and IMHO, XP is the superior OS. ME's O.K. if that's the best you can use, but XP is a far more stable system and far as I'm concerned, a better choice. As to whether you can install ME, a look at the requirements should answer your question.
If you decide to go with ME, I can highly recommend applying 'Trev's tweaks V...' available @:

really made my ME a sweetheart.

ME will baulk at more than 512mb of ram. It will not instal. You would have to remove some ram during instal then even if you put it back later would have to do a reg hack to restrict the amount of ram addressed to 512. ME would be a tragic waste on that system

There is a simple and well documented single line add to the Windows ME SYSTEM.INI file that allows Windows ME to run on systems with more than 640MB of RAM. A second patch is required to restrict it to 1GB if you have more.

It is possible to install Windows ME while more than 640MB is in the system, but it is best to remove memory above 512 while installing, then make the simple patch(es) and then add the memory back in and complete installing driver updates, windows updates and applications.

The biggest problem with running Windows ME on a new fast machine, is getting and installing all of the hardware device drivers you need for the new hardware. The ones built into Windows ME are too old (five years) and were designed for older and slower chipsets. But drivers for almost all system boards and adapters exist and are easy to find.

I would go with JackG on this query - it's a bit crazy to step so far back with such a powerful system and it will be difficult to obtain the right drivers, also to keep ME properly updated with regard to security etc at this stage. Why are you trying to leave XP? It is a far better system and should be rock solid on a system like yours. If you're having problems with it, try posting the problems on the XP forum.
