Can't be done. The OEM version can only preform a clean install!

Damn, isn't there some crack? I guess I had better just backup my files on a cd and go from there... maybe I'll ask my friend who works at manitowoc public utilities(network administrator) to get a copy 'for work'. He doesn't have to pay....
Will it install over regular windows 98?

Hi Sam:

Windows be Windows no matter where it came from. Dell just runs the OEM load that has all of their drivers on it. No matter what version you run OEM, Retail, it won't install over an existing O/S. The $49 WinMe that installs over 98 is still the full version, it just checks the PC for a qualifying OS before it installs. It also has a unique Product Key that will only work with the upgrade, although there are ways around that. That way you cannot install it on a blank disk and "cheat" Microsoft out of the extra money they charge for a stand alone copy of Millennium.

I like Windows Me. I installed it because I repair computers and needed the experience on it. But I would tell anyone that unless you have some compelling reason to upgrade from 98, don't do it. Most of the frills can be downloaded, or are a part of the PLUS! package which costs abotu $20.

Will the full retail version install as an upgrade to win98 or win95?
