You need an upgrade version.
The only way to get by this is to change the precopy.cab file to a upgrade version.
I can E-mail this file if you want

You can also go to your existing windows directory and either rename or delete win.com

Boot off of a start up floppy and then run WinMe setup from the cd like usual.

you also need to rename winver.exe, together with win.com (donīt delete them) to use a full licence windows ME cd as a upgrade version over windows 98...

I'm a little confused. I had a 650 Mhz LT. it had a cd rom and a floopy disk drives. but u could only have one installed in the LT at a time. in order to have them both on the LT I had to purchase a special cable (which I didn't get). so I had to install windows 95 from diskettes on to the LT then install the drivers for the cd rom drive. once this was done, from the cd rom drive in windows I installed Win ME without a problem and the LT works GREAT. the version of ME I had was the full install version. I even installed it on a brand new HD. so I'am I missing something?

I'm sure you can, I installed the full version of Win ME over win 95 and it works fine. I know you have win 98 but give it a shoot.
