hi, im installing a new hd and i want to know how to get my OS from my current hd to install to my new hd, i dont have a OS disc i only have the recovery disc that came with my computer. any replies would be greatly appreciated.

Depends on your recovery disc. If you give more details on your system you will get better help.
For example, if you are running an HP Pavilion, the OS is on the CD. A Compaq usually has the OS only on the hard drive.
It is possible to ghost the drive with a utility like Norton Ghost if you don't have a proper recovery disc.Post back with more info.

i have a compaq, i bought in 2001 the reason im replacing the drive is because i get physical errors and they cant be fixed so i want to install a new hd.

UGH!!!!
I have done work on Compaqs and I think the best bet for you would be to first check the HP website for drivers for your computer. The link for their website is here;

I don't know if you plan on keeping Windows ME or even if you can buy it,but if they have drivers for XP I would recommend upgrading.
I recently formatted a Compaq laptop for a friend and installed XP and he said it never worked so good.
You might have to download the Compaq rom from their site to install on the hard drive before anything else because Compaq usually has the BIOS located on the hard drive in a hidden non dos partition.
I had to do that for an older Desk Pro desktop before I could install an operating system.
I think it is possible to ghost the entire drive, but I am not sufficiently familiar with ghosting utilities to give you good information on that.
Also, if you have been getting errors, you might end up copying the errors onto the new drive if anything is corrupted.
Check on the Compaq site and keep posting.
