I have a HP Pavillion with an Intel Celeron processor running windowsME. I am trying to install a ATI Radeon7000 Graphics card. When i plug the monitor cable into the card, I cannot access windows, my background is there and the mouse cursor moves, but there are no icons. when i try to plug my monitor back into the original socket, none of my games will run. All this started because I wanted to play my new Return to Castle Wolfenstein game, but my computer was too slow to run it. So I thought I would put a new card in.....please help!

I installed an ATI RADEON 32MB PCI Video card in my system which had intergrated onboard video. According to the directions supplied by ATI . You need to disable your current display adapter and upon reboot let the system install the standard VGA software and or drivers. Then you are suppose to install the software and drivers for the new video card. My BIOS did not have an option to disable onboard video . I disabled the intergraded video in device manager under display adapters and system devices ! After you get the card working you need to read adjust your display resolution and possibly other settings by righ clicking on the desktop and clicking on properties ! Good Luck,Nick
There may be a jumper on your motherboard that has to be set to disable onboard video...
