Hi,
While trying to install Windows Me, over Windows 98 Second Edition,I recieved this little pop-up message:
This version of Windows ME cannot be installed on your computer. Please obtain the correct version from your computer manufacturer. Message SU0173
So I thought that it might have been Windows 98 that was bugging it. So I took Windows Me to my other computer which had nothing on it, and tried it there too. But it failed. I didn't feel like loosing over a gig of programs, that is why I did it on my other computer. Are there any ideas to get this to work? Thanks,

I couldn't find the exact SU error number but did find this... http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q225/2/52.ASP My guess is that the CD is damaged since it didn't work on either system.

It sounds like either you have the full version (not upgrade) or an oem version for a particular manufacturer. You need the generic upgrade version. If that is what you have, and it won't work on two pcs, then maybe you do have a damaged cd.

This error occurs when you have a boot sector protection option enabled in your BIOS. Turn it off ... and everything will run smoothly. I think there is a note about this in one of the WinME readme files on the installation CD if you need confirmation.
