I have the Windows Millenium Edition CD, but setup consistently fails with message SU0168, ie, "Yiu already have an Operating System installed that cannot be upgraded by this version of setup. You need to acquire Windows Millenium Upgrade Edition."
I am installing on an HD with 3 FAT32 partitions : one primary (C:) and two on an extended partition (D:, E:)along with a couple of Non-DOS partitions. D and E hold my data and backups but C is clean. I am booting with a boot floppy made on a Win98 machine but loading only the CDROM driver at boot time and nothing else.
Are you attempting to upgrade from another OS or are you trying a clean install?
If you are attempting to upgrade: Boot to the bootdisk. Browse to c:\windows Rename win.com to win.old. Browse to the cd rom drive. setup.exe
If you are attempting a clean install: It sounds like this may be an OEM cd meant for a specific machine... like a Dell or an HP. There are ways of getting around this (so I hear... sounds like a lot of work)... but I belive you will need a Hex Editor and to know what you are doing when you use one:p
If you are trying a clean install, why not pick up a cheap OEM cd from someplace off of Pricewatch? Cost you $10 and save you a bunch of headaches.
