I posted a question about no sound on LP recorder even though I could hear the LP playing through my computer speakers and was eventually advised to get a new sound card!

Well after searching I came accross this site http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~abcomp/lp-cdr.htm which gives the answer and has solved the problem, the author has been asked this question many times as apparently he and many UK audio buffs are recording all their old LPs to disk/CD.

The problem is to not just untick the mute box on line in in windows volume control(which only allows it to be outputted to the speakers) but to also in the recording section select line in instead of CD( which most sound cards are set to by default) as well as of course selecting line in in LP recorder or whatever software is being used.

Naturally if one later wants to record a CD from the computers CD drive this will have to be changed back.I also found out that there are 2 types of CD-R/RW,the CD-R/RW for computers which can be burned in Computer CD burners, and CD-R/RW digital audio, which is mostly what HI-FI burners and recording companies use.

Do you know if there is any difference in quality or lasting and can these CD-R/RW digital audios be burned in computer cd burners?

I have 2 CDRW digital audio's and use them for data as well. I thought this meant there is no implied guarantee the quality would be good enough for program data. If there was a 'dropout' in audio you would not notice it, if it was in a program this may make the program appear to have bugs.
I have replied to earlier posts about recording tapes & vinyl to computer then
CD-R. If you search but can't find these posts then the title of the problem may have been vague... HELP!.... PROBLEM ... STUCK... ??? and other less informative titles.
P.S. LP's are generally recorded at a lower volume than singles/CD's. Record one of each then compare before recording a weeks worth which you will not be happy with, adjust line-in volume as necessary.

I should have added... Hi-Fi's struggle to read CDRW discs. I can play one in my stereo but can't skip a track or jump to a track without the laser skidding to the end of the disc. I only tried it once to see if it worked. The reflected laser light may not be bright enough or something.
Use CD-R for your Hi-Fi.
