If you do not already have a Cookie program,
you might want to consider Cookie Wall from www.analogx.com
It is a Cookie manager, and it works very well. Also, it's FREE.
For the index.dat file, I use Web Washer from
www.webroot.com, but it costs $29, but it does do the job.

I agree with wawaD....delindex is the best and cheapest (free). Not as difficult to run as you may think, but read the directions.

Tony, IMO everybody should have a copy of Delindex.bat on there c:\ because it's FREE and works.
It's a great batch file that if you wanted, you could configure it how you please, by adding or subtracting lines to and from it. To see IF you like it download it from here -

ftp://ftp.burzurq.com/delindex/index.html

Put it directly onto your c:\ (and not c:\windows) get your ME Startup disk and boot up with it.
Choose option 3 without cd support and when your at the A:\> prompt you simply type in -
c:\delindex.bat and press Enter.
Follow the onscreen instructions or just press M for MORE and let it do it's stuff. Take out the floppy and away you go.

Oh ... and thanks SMUOD for hosting it still. :)

IF you have the patience of a Gnat, like me, get yourself a new floppy and copy onto it -

c:\windows\command\ebd\command.com
and
c:\windows\command\ebd\Io.sys

And boot up with this. It will just get you to your A:\>prompt quicker, to run the batch file.

Try Delindex. (How quickly we forget!)

ftp://ftp.burzurq.com/delindex/index.html

On May 5th (Cinco de Mayo) I'm going to post a batch file (called DELTA.BAT) that will delete all 4 index.dat files at startup.

Sorry for the duplication. I didn't read all the way down the page before I posted. (That's what I get for using Ctrl/End.)

BTW, the DELTA.BAT file will NOT take the place of DELINDEX.BAT.

To solve your Immediate problem and get rid of all the crap that might be on your machine get Delindex.bat now.

As by the looks of it -

"DELTA.BAT file will NOT take the place of DELINDEX.BAT".

So, mays well get it done now. If you get troubles post Here.
